KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has replaced three state liaison chiefs in Kedah, Terrenganu and Penang in a move to consolidate the party for the coming general election.

Datuk Paduka Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who is formerly deputy Kedah state liaison chief, has replaced Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as Kedah Umno liaison chief, while Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said takes over the state Umno liaison chief post from Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein.

In Penang, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been replaced by Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman , who is also the Nibong Tebal division chief and deputy liaison chairman.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the new appointments will take effect on Jan 1. He added the three vice-presidents will concentrate on other duties given to them.
